The beautiful traditional Saxon village of Cisnadioara is watched over by the oldest ‘Fortified Church’ in Transylvania, dating from the 13th century. The village is also home to the ancient, mysterious and legend creating ‘Frog Rock’. These two national monuments and the natural beauty of the village and surrounding countryside have earned Cisnadioara the title of a ‘Sat de Vacanta’ (officially recognised location of outstanding beauty). The village has a post office, a grocery shop, a museum of traditional Saxon crafts, a couple restaurants and a cafe on the village square. Though the feel of the village is totally rural it is situated only 10 kilometres from Sibiu (European City of Culture 2007) and just 5 Kilometres from the world famous, open-air ASTRA Museum. The ASTRA has over 360 reconstructed dwellings from every era and area of Romania situated in 80 acres of forest around two lakes, with a mountain backdrop. It is heralded as ‘the jewel in the crown’ of tourism in Transylvania.
Accommodation for Fully Inclusive Holidays
The accommodation for our exceptional value, ‘fully inclusive’ holidays is based in two pretty, traditional houses in the Saxon village of Cisnadioara. Although both houses have been recently renovated to an exacting modern standard, they still retain their original charm. All ‘fully inclusive’ guests have 24 hour access to the swimming pool, sun terrace and orchard garden. In addition, we have a (tongue in cheek) ‘pub’ for our guests use only. ‘The Van Helsing’s Retreat has a cosy log burning stove for winter breaks and fast free WiFi.
